How to cook rice
When you think of Japanese cuisine, you think of rice.
I will explain how to cook rice without a rice cooker.
There are also different types of rice.
Japanese rice is the japonica variety.
First, wash the rice quickly. Wash it quickly and discard the water immediately.
After adding new water, use your hands to gently remove dirt and debris.
I eat organically grown rice without pesticides. I don’t wash the rice. Once you add water, you can cook without washing.
Discard the washing water.
Add enough fresh water to cover the rice and let it soak for 1 to 2 hours.
Discard that water.
For rice, the amount of water is 1.1 times the volume of rice.
If the rice you cooked with it is hard, increase the amount by 1.2 times.
This is volume. If you have a measuring cup, use it.
Cover the pot.
Adjust the heat to medium and bring to a boil.
You can tell when it’s boiling by hearing a sound or by seeing bubbles coming out of the lid of the pot.
Once it boils, immediately lower the heat.
Adjust to the lowest setting and cook for 12 to 15 minutes.
Turn off the heat, leave the lid on, and wait 10 to 15 minutes.
Now it’s done.
